Guns and Tires

The plan of attack for my project is based off a business from my hometown. The name of the business is Schanz’s Supply and they basically only have guns and tires.  I have always thought that it would be interesting to see what an advertisement from this business because they basically only sell two products. I am not sure yet on what I am going to do between a video commercial or some kind of magazine ad.  However I have both of these product so that will be easy for me to get a hold of and some friends who would help in case I needed more people for a video ad.

Ads

I have never really took the time to look at the ads on television or in the magazines I read.  TV ads were very interesting to look at and sometimes very obviously aimed towards one gender, race, or age group in particular.  The two strongest ads towards that I found are axe commercials on TV and auto part ads in my Hot Rod and Diesel Power magazines and both were pointed to men.  I’m not going to lie I almost want to buy axe ever sense I saw the mobs of women attacking any dude who used that particular deodorant, but what is even worse is how much I want to buy parts from a particular company just because a hot chick is standing next to it.  It’s sad how easily a girl wearing skimpy clothes who knows nothing about cars can sway my opinion automotive parts.
I would also like to add one other television ad that really affected me.  All the SPCA commercials with the abused animals, these ads turned me into a complete softy and make me really want to help abused and neglected animals.  I can’t say these ads really appealed to either gender, but this ad really aims at the softy side of all of us.

Research Paper

In the past research reports have not been my strong point.  I just can’t bring myself to focus, sit down, and look up something on a subject.  This is even more enhanced if I have no say in what it is for me to research.  During high school it was as though the teacher gave you a subject and forced you to write and research on it even if you didn’t have any interest it.  I understand that you are not always going to get to write about what you want, however I do think that if I am going to do well on a research paper then I really need to have some kind of feelings about it.

Cantor Question #3

According to Cantor higher education is still talking about race because in her eyes higher educated people are wealthy rich males.  She says that this is why there is a larger need for diversification in colleges. I personally agree with this because if you look in our society, wealthy white males tend to be the more highly educated people.  This leads to not only an issue of race but an issue of sexist as well.  In the world this can be seen if you look at our congress.  By majority congress is ran by old, wealthy, white males and the same can be found in the business world, where white males tend to dominate the playing field.

WMU Diversity

After the researched that I have done over the diversity of Western Michigan University and its stances on diversity, I found it is just as diverse as I thought it was.  I am also not going to claim that I spent large amounts of time combing through Internet pages, try to find the deepest and most meaningful pages on our institutions diversity.  Instead I simply looked at our website and found we are very diverse and we take pride in out own heritage and social upbringings. We offer everything from Student Disability services to Faith and Spiritual Development programs. Below is a link that is full of links to all the programs our school offers for diversity.

Peer review

In the past I have found that every time I do peer-review that it is very useless.  This is nothing against any teachers that I have or have had in the past I just never find what a fellow student says, very helpful.  I will say however, I did like that in our English 1050 class we had to read the paper out loud.  It made me find mistakes in grammar and in the flow of my paper.  Also the questions that the reviewer was asked to use did in the end help me in revising my paper.  I still am not a fan of peer review, however this experience was far better then what I have faced in previous classes.
